Swangzhe

Swangzhe is the working name of Beijing-based illustrator Hongfei Liu, whose film illustrations translate cinema into a retro-comic idiom — thick outlines, high contrast, palettes borrowed from mid-century horror paperbacks and grindhouse lobby cards. His subjects range across genre and tone: The Green Knight, Dream Scenario, Eyes Wide Shut, A Nightmare on Elm Street. What ties them is a visual vocabulary that makes familiar films feel freshly printed on pulp — simultaneously nostalgic and exact. He sells prints through Volution Gallery.
